(Un)Bearable Reality
These paintings
explore the childhood attachment to inanimate objects such
as the teddy bear and doll. For generations children have
engaged in very real relationships
with these objects, often cherishing them long into their
adult years.
When closely
examined these complex relationships expose narratives that
occupy an ambiguous place somewhere between fantasy and
reality. Etched in our collective memory these objects of
affection transcend gender, age, culture and religious boundaries
causing the curious examiner to consider the lifescape known
as childhood, a synthesis of enchantment and innocence,
turmoil and discontent, imagination and wonder.
