Artist Statement

Since 2000, my work has involved the creation of conceptual based art that explores social construction and gender roles, identity, memory, and the human experience. I combine materials such as acrylic, oil, wax and resin through a process of many layers, attempting to reach something that is tangible and real, ambiguous and unexplainable. Through a combination of media including photography, drawing, collage and painting, my work focuses on deconstructing false realities that exist within fairy tales and nursery rhymes, media representation and popular culture, and the imagined spaces that permeate our childhood and adult culture. Throughout my body of work I attempt to scratch beneath the surface veneer to explore the complexities of the human experience and psyche, which is at times ineffable.

I was born in St. John, New Brunswick and grew up in Ottawa, which is my home. I am currently in fourth year at University of Ottawa completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. My work is displayed in many private homes, as well as medical and corporate spaces. In addition, you can view my work at Rothwell Gallery in Ottawa.
